San Fernando Valley West Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

meetings at

Astoria Senior Residence in Woodland Hills

This support group is sponsored by the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. (APDA).  Meetings are on the third Wednesday of every month, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, under the expert leadership of Viviane Tondeur, the administrator of Astoria Senior Residence.

The groups are designed to provide education and support to patients, caregivers and families affected by Parkinson’s disease. We do this by inviting professionals to discuss their area of expertise and entertain questions of the group, by conducting Parkinson’s specific exercise sessions, and by holding an open forum where the group members can share their concerns and ideas.

One of the clients at Astoria Senior Residence, Dolores Plaster, is an active volunteer for the meetings held at the facility.  She helps with the mailings and phone calls, and she hosts the welcome desk at each meeting. Dolores was awarded the "Volunteer of the Year" award on Wednesday, December 14, 2004.  The staff and residents at Astoria Senior Residence are proud of Dolores and her dedication to helping others in their search for improving their lives through the Parkinson’s Disease Support Group. The following article appeared in the Valley New Group on November 25, 2004.
