Kitty
Carlisle Hart ~ Talk about having a great evening in San Francisco! I met
my friends Max and Randall, brothers at the Empire Plush Room along with their
86-year-old mother. We got there an hour early and got seats next to the
stage and had a wonderful evening. Max and Randall had their mother go
to Kitty and have her sign a program for her, ten dollars a signature you see!
Now
this is an interesting story. We saw the program on Wednesday, January
12th, 2006 and the piano accompanist was great. Kitty said he has been
working with her for 12 years and is responsible for her ability to learn new
songs and to keep on top of her show at 95 years of age! He sang a song
with her and looked great at the grand piano with his tuxedo and the lighting.
Now get this, today, Thursday, I am finished working out at the Y and in the
basement with nothing on, getting ready to shower, and a man came by and asked
me how the show was. Well of course, I waxed supreme, the show was
wonderful, Kitty was wonderful, and the accompanist was wonderful and so on.
Suddenly there is a man standing next to me in work out clothes and smiles and
asked me if I recognized him. Huh, I said. Everyone just looked
on! Finally he laughed and said he was the accompanist for Kitty
Carlisle Hart and enjoyed how I said I had liked the show! I said to
him, very diplomatically, "You look shorter than on the stage!"
He cracked up and agreed he looked better in a tuxedo and under special
lighting. He said he is 62 and loves working with Kitty. He said
they were just in Manhattan and were going back to do another show. I
told him a friend, John, is going tonight and he said to tell him to go
backstage after the performance and ask for David saying he met me in the
locker room at the Y! He said he would talk to John and perhaps meet
Kitty privately. I called John's home phone and left a message and
as far as I am concerned, if John gets an autograph or two, he should give one
to me! Talk about a small world!
David
also told me there were over a thousand people on stand by tickets but would
not get in. He said Farley Granger, the movie actor, is at the York
Hotel where the Empire Plush Room is located and asked for a free ticket to
come see her. David said they had a good laugh, as there weren't any
seats available for anyone, even an older movie actor. So we were lucky
to get in to see her.
